Set macro targets and build a meal plan
Calculate a client's calories and macros, record their allergens, and build their first plan.
How to calculate a client's calories and macros, record their allergens, and build a meal plan that hits the target. TrainerStack includes a calorie calculator, a recipe library and a one-click Recalculate that scales each food to the meal's numbers, so a plan takes minutes rather than an evening.
Everything for one client is on their Nutrition tab, inside their workspace: their Macro targets, their Allergies and intolerances, and their Meal plans. The sidebar's Nutrition item holds what you reuse across clients: Plan Templates, Recipes and Custom Foods. A plan is live in the client's app the moment you save it.
Set the targets
- Open the client from My Clients and click their Nutrition tab.
- Under Macro targets, enter Sex, Age, Height, Weight, optional Body fat %, their Activity level, their Goal, and Protein g/kg. The Calculated targets card updates as you type.
- Tick Carb cycle rest days if you want separate training and rest day numbers. Set Training days per week and the Carb shift. Protein and fat stay the same on both days.
- Tick Override numbers if you would rather type the calories and macros yourself.
- Set Effective from. Leave it as today, or pick a future date to schedule a change while the current targets stay active.
- Click Save targets.
Once saved, the tab shows the active numbers as cards. Edit targets reopens the form, and the Target schedule inside it lists every past and scheduled change.
Record allergens
Under Allergies and intolerances, tick anything the client must avoid, add notes, and click Record allergens. Any food in the library known to contain one of them is flagged red in the plan builder, and the plan shows a banner counting what needs swapping. Save with nothing ticked to record that there are none.
Build the plan
- Still on the client's Nutrition tab, click + New plan under Meal plans. If you have templates, Start from a template… opens the builder with a copy of one instead; see Meal plan templates.
- Give the plan a name. The Energy consumed and Macro distribution card at the top compares the day against the client's targets as you build.
- Leave Auto-split targets on No split for a first plan, or choose a strategy to give each meal its own target; see Meal options, rest days and auto-split.
- In each meal click Add food to search the library, or Add recipe. Enter amounts in grams, or use the stepper for foods sold in pieces. + Add meal adds another meal; the cross on a meal removes it.
- Click Recalculate on a meal to scale its foods to the meal target. Lock any food you do not want changed first. Recipes are added at their original amounts, so recalculate after adding one.
- Click Save meal plan. If you leave the builder with unsaved changes, you are asked whether to keep editing, discard, or save and close.
The client sees only their newest plan. Saving a new plan replaces what they see; older plans stay in your list.
What you should see
- The Energy consumed and Macro distribution bars at the top match the day's target.
- The client gets a "New meal plan" notification. In their app the Meal guide shows the meals with an Add to diary button on each.
- Any ingredient hitting a recorded allergen shows a red Contains pill, and the banner at the top counts what needs swapping.
If it is not working
- The targets saved with "No macros". Sex, age, height and weight are all needed to calculate, unless you tick Override numbers.
- "Choose an effective date." Clicking + Schedule a new change clears the date. Pick one.
- "Give the meal plan a name before saving." The name field is outlined red; type one and save again.
- "Set this client's training day macro targets first." Auto-split needs targets. Set them, then come back.
- Recalculate did not change the salad. Small foods such as leaves and sauces scale with the meal and are then held, so they do not shrink to nothing. Locked rows never move.
- I cannot find a branded product. The trainer picker does not search barcode databases. Click Create a custom food and enter the per-100 g figures from the label.
- A food shows no allergen pill. No pill means nobody has assessed that food, not that it is safe. Packaged products still need their label checked.
- The Meal guide is missing in the client's app. It appears once a saved plan exists for them. Check the plan is saved under this client, not a template.
