Meal plan templates
Build a generic plan once with its own targets, then give any client their own copy.
How to build reusable meal plan templates in TrainerStack, set the calories and macros a template is built against, and assign a copy to a client in one click. For trainers who hand out the same 1,800 or 2,500 calorie structure again and again and want to stop rebuilding it.
A template is a meal plan that belongs to no client. It carries its own targets, because there is no client to borrow them from, and otherwise the builder is the same one you use on a client's Nutrition tab. Templates live under Nutrition → Plan Templates in the sidebar. Clients never see them; they only see the copy you assign.
Create a template
- Open Nutrition in the sidebar and stay on Plan Templates. Click + New template.
- Name it after what it is for, such as "2,000 kcal high protein" or "Vegetarian maintenance".
- Fill in Template targets. Pick one of two ways to enter them: Calories + percentages takes the day's calories and the share each macro should make up; the three percentages must total 100. Macros takes grams of protein, carbs and fat and works the calories out at 4, 4 and 9 per gram. Switching between the two carries your numbers across. The card shows what the targets work out to, and Auto-split and Recalculate use them.
- Build the meals exactly as for a client: Auto-split targets, Add food, Add recipe, Add option, Recalculate. See Set macro targets and build a meal plan and Meal options, rest days and auto-split.
- Click Save template.
Templates have no rest-day side, because rest days depend on a client's own targets. Leave the targets blank if you only want a structure with no numbers behind it.
Assign a template to a client
There are two ways, and both give the client their own copy as a new meal plan.
- From the template list, click Assign to client, choose the client and click Assign. The copy is saved straight away and the client is notified.
- From the client's Nutrition tab, pick the template from Start from a template… next to + New plan. The builder opens with the copy so you can adjust it before it reaches the client; nothing is saved until you click Save meal plan.
Either way the client's Energy consumed card now compares the meals against the client's own targets, not the template's. If their numbers differ, click Recalculate on each meal and the foods scale to fit.
What changes and what does not
- Editing a template later does not change plans already assigned from it. Each client has their own copy.
- Assigning a template does not change the client's macro targets. Set those on their Nutrition tab.
- Deleting a template leaves every assigned copy in place.
- The template list shows each template's targets and totals so you can pick the right one at a glance.
If it is not working
- "Percentages add up to 90%. They need to make 100%." Adjust the three percentages until they total 100, or switch to Macros and enter grams instead.
- Start from a template… is not showing on the client's tab. It only appears once you have at least one saved template.
- The assigned plan's meals are over or under the client's target. The copy keeps the template's amounts. Use Recalculate on each meal.
- No Rest day toggle on a template. Templates are single-day. Build the rest day on the client's copy, where their rest-day targets apply.
