Connect Stripe to take payments

Link a Stripe account so clients can pay for sessions, packs and subscriptions online, and what each status means.

How to connect Stripe to TrainerStack so your clients can pay for sessions, packs and subscriptions online. Payments go straight to your own Stripe account at Stripe's standard Australian rates, and this guide explains each connection status you might see along the way.

Stripe is how TrainerStack charges your clients. Until it is connected you can still run every plan on Manual / off-platform collection and record cash and bank transfers yourself. Connecting takes a few minutes, but Stripe will not pay out until it has verified your identity, bank account and ABN.

Before you start

Have these ready for Stripe: your business details and address, a phone number and email, a driver licence or passport, an Australian bank account, and your ABN. The What you'll need for Stripe button on the Integrations tab lists them too.

Tip: if you already use Stripe with another tool such as Xero or Shopify, create a separate Stripe account for TrainerStack first, then choose Sign in on the Stripe screen.

Steps

  1. Open Settings and click the Integrations tab.
  2. Click Connect Stripe. You are taken to Stripe to sign in or create an account. You have ten minutes before the link expires.
  3. Follow Stripe's screens. You can stop part way and come back with Continue onboarding later.
  4. You are returned to TrainerStack with the toast "Stripe account connected". The import wizard may open offering to pull in existing Stripe customers. Close it if you have none.
  5. Check the three pills under Payments. You want Charges enabled, Payouts enabled and Details submitted all with ticks.
  6. Go back to the Branding tab and click Save Branding once more, so your logo and colours are copied onto Stripe's checkout pages.

What you should see

  • Charges enabled: you can create payment links, packs and subscriptions.
  • Payouts enabled: Stripe will send money to your bank. Until then clients can pay but the money sits in Stripe.
  • Details required or Charges pending: Stripe wants more information. Click Continue onboarding. You also get an in-app notification "Stripe needs more info" when this happens.
  • Open Stripe Dashboard appears once charges are enabled. It opens stripe.com in a new tab, where you sign in with the email you used at Stripe.

If it is not working

  • "The Stripe connection expired before it finished." The ten-minute window passed. Click Connect Stripe again.
  • "This Stripe account can't be reconnected because it was disconnected before." A disconnected account can never come back. On Stripe's screen choose Create a new account.
  • "Pop-up blocked." Allow pop-ups for TrainerStack, then click Open Stripe Dashboard again.
  • Plans fail with "Connect your Stripe account in Settings before adding a Stripe-collected plan". Either Stripe is not connected, charges are not enabled yet, or payments are paused. Finish onboarding, or choose Manual / off-platform for now.
  • Thinking of switching accounts? Switch Stripe account clears every client's saved card, so they all need a fresh payment link. Permanently disconnect cannot be undone. Pause payments stops new charges and links but keeps everything connected, and you can resume at any time.
  • Billing versus Integrations. The Billing tab is your own TrainerStack subscription. Client payments live under Integrations.
